Restauration, the much lauded Bluff Heights restaurant on the east end of 4th Street’s “Retro Row,” known for its inspired use of the locally sourced, seasonal ingredients behind its American fare, has formed a new partnership with Chef Philip Pretty, owner Dana Tanner announced Saturday.
Pretty joined the Restauration team in October 2015, when he was hired as the executive chef by Tanner with then-partner Rob Robertson.
In December 2016 when Robertson took a new position as head of operations for the Hofman Hospitality group, the Signal Hill-based company known for Long Beach’s beloved Hof’s Hut Restaurant & Bakery, as well as Lucille’s Smokehouse Bar-B-Que and Saint & Second, Pretty acquired his share.
“I’m looking forward to this next chapter in my culinary career,” Pretty said in a statement. “From day one at Restauration, I felt like I’d found my home, so when the opportunity to partner with Dana became available, there was no hesitation.”
Classically trained in French and contemporary cuisine, Pretty is a Le Cordon Bleu graduate.
Following his time as a student, Pretty worked at several renowned Los Angeles-based establishments, including Providence and Joe’s, both Michelin star-rated restaurants, as well as Gordon Ramsay’s The London. He then spent two years as executive chef of Axe, followed by another two at Fundamental LA before joining Restauration in his native Long Beach.
“There’s no one I’d rather work side by side with at Restauration,” Tanner said in a statement. “From the beginning, Chef Philip and I have had the same philosophy when it comes to the food we source and serve and the way the restaurant should operate.”
