The entire community is invited to recognize and celebrate the achievements of those to be honored. The awardees were nominated by locals and then voted for by locals in an effort to highlight the “folks [who] may not always get the credit they deserve,” the announcement stated.

“Local businesses, people and events often times go unnoticed for their hard work,” said event founder Sal Flores in a statement. “This is a chance to recognize them.”

In its first year, Best of LGBT Long Beach received hundreds of nominees and thousands of voters weighing in, according to the release. This year, Get Out LB is expecting over 32,000 votes submitted. Also this year, Ron Sylvester, a local LGBT advocate, will be presented with the Inaugural Community Advocacy Award.

In partnership with the Long Beach Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (LBGLCC), a reception with food and cocktails will precede the award ceremony, which will feature guest speakers Vice Mayor Suja Lowenthal, President of the LBGLCC Keir Jones and Interim Director of the UAM Brian Trimble.

All are invited to recognize and revel in the achievements of the businesses, activists and members of Long Beach who have shown impressive dedication and support for the local LGBT community.
