The Long Beach Airport (LGB) announced that several U.S. Marine Corps F/A-18 aircraft will be operating at LGB this week through Memorial Day Weekend. Four to six departures will take place between the morning hours of 9:00AM and 10:00AM, and a similar number of planes will touch down during the late afternoon.
The aircraft are scheduled to make their final departure from LGB on Tuesday morning, May 26.
According to the airport, the Marine Corps voluntarily suggested that they limit the number of arrivals and departures to and from LGB in consideration of nearby residents, despite their exemption from noise regulations. Their daily training and refueling operations will be conducted at remote airfield(s), while the aircraft will follow noise abatement procedures, such as modified arrival and departure flight profiles when operating in the area.
Not only will Long Beach locals get the chance to hear the rumbling engines of these military jets, but the public is invited to meet the valiant pilots who fly the F/A-18s this Memorial Day Weekend. On Saturday, May 23, two pilots will be available between 2:00PM and 4:00PM to answer questions and have a chat. Visit Signature Flight Support at 3333 E. Spring Street to take advantage of this rare opportunity to view the aircraft, meet the pilots and express appreciation for their service.
LGB asks that all attendees refrain from bringing bags or backpacks to the meet and greet.
