Food Finders will embrace #GivingTuesday, a worldwide day for giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations, to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide, the local nonprofit announced this week.
To occur this year on December 1, #GivingTuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving and follows the always-hyped Black Friday and Cyber Monday days of deal hunting in an effort to spur a more giving attitude for the holidays. #GivingTuesday seeks to inspire people to collaborate in improving their local communities and to give back in impactful ways to the charities and causes they support.
Food Finders has made a call to action for us locals to raise $5,000 in donations in one day, one $5 donation at a time. Supporters can text GivingFoodDay to 41444 on their mobile phones, or click here www.foodfinders.org/monetary-donations to make a $5 (or more) donation to help alleviate hunger.
“We wanted to make this #GivingTuesday/#GivingFoodDay opportunity accessible and affordable to everyone,” said Patti Larson, executive director of Food Finders, in a statement. “It’s amazing how fast such a small donation can add up, and make a huge impact in alleviating hunger in our community this holiday season.”
Supporters are encouraged to share photos of themselves holding a sign with the #GivingFoodDay and #GivingTuesday hashtag and finishing the sentence, “I Give Because…,” along with the instructions to text GivingFoodDay to 41444, on their personal and business social media platforms to help spread the word of the one-day movement.
