Five Things to Do with Dad This Father's Day Weekend

Sports, cigars, barbecue and “not another tie” seem to be the trending words and phrases of enticement to get dad out and about this Father’s Day. But why not try a couple less traditional ways of celebrating all that dad does for his kids (whether they’re grown or still growing), such as going for a jog along Long Beach’s seaside shore or stepping up and learning how to braid hair. You never know when your daughter might need a little help with that!

Before you take in an especially large amount of calories during brunch or dinner on Sunday, take a jog down Long Beach’s beautiful pedestrian path and achieve a fun run medal, truly a shiny reminder that you can eat anything you want for the rest of the celebratory day. Make sure to wear sunscreen, lightweight clothing and drink plenty of water to prepare for the weekend heat wave.

The fun run supports nonprofit Fitness 4 All’s Kid’s Progressive Marathon Program, as well as bringing yoga and fitness to women’s shelters and drug and alcohol treatment facilities in the greater Los Angeles area.

Featuring a three-course prix-fixe menu and complimentary cigar, Father’s Day at Michael’s on Naples is set to be a classy affair, one where dad can kick back and enjoy a delicious dinner under the roof of a Zagat-winning Italian restaurant.

Start with a choice of Insalata di Farro e Funghi, Trecce con Chianina or Insalata Alla Romana, then dive into a roasted halibut dish with artichokes stew, saba glazed Prime New York steak or Mary’s chicken with spicy tomato sauce. And there’s always room for dessert, especially if it involves a strawberry-rhubarb tart with vanilla cream or almond cake with mascarpone gelato. Did you say gelato?

Michael’s On Naples is open daily for dinner at 5:00PM with happy hour seven days a week from 5:00PM to 7:00PM. For reservations, call 562.439.7080 or visit the website here.

Stroll with dad through the aquarium’s new summer exhibits, Horses and Dragons and Vanishing Animals, post or pre-barbecue. This Dad’s Day celebration includes admission to the entire aquarium, a drool-worthy meal (think Sriracha Peach bone-in Chicken) and crafts for kids. The Father’s Day meal will take place on the front lawn of the aquarium, so make sure to wear plenty of sunscreen as this weekend is set to be a hot one.
