Political Players to Dish Out the Truth at Long Beach Playhouse Fundraiser

lbplayhouselogoFor the fifth year, community leaders and actors will gather at the offices of Keesal, Young & Logan (KYL) to reveal the truth about what’s really going on with Long Beach’s politics, culture and newsmakers.

On Wednesday, June 17 at 5:30PM, the radio show and fundraiser for the Long Beach Playhouse will feature the witty and well-versed presence of city dignitaries such as councilmembers Stacy Mungo and Al Austin, among many more.

The hilarious script by Gazette Executive Editor Harry Saltzgiver, complete with sound effects, witty banter and bad puns, will be performed by this year’s Long Beach Political Players: Gov. George Deukmejian, Doug Haubert, Gigi Fusco Meese, Stacy Mungo, Michelle Molina, Doug Otto, Gloria Cordero, Victoria Bryan, John Morris, Al Austin, Lisa Ramelow, Rod Wilson and Mitchell Nunn.

According to the announcement, Saltsgiver’s script will be “rousing and provocative and the ad libs fast and furious.”

lbplayhouse“I love this event and it's become something much more than a fundraiser,” said Executive Director Andrew Vonderschmitt. “It's an annual celebration that the participants and patrons look forward to every year. It gives the politicians a chance to have fun and the guests a chance to witness that. Add in Harry's solid and hilarious script and it's a night to remember.”

Vonderschmitt said the real fun is in the "spontaneity of the cast members."

In addition to the Radio Show, KYL's chef, the acclaimed William Hall, will offer a smorgasbord of appetizers to satisfy even the the most hard-to-please foodie, while on your way to the buffet is KYL’s hosted bar and bartender.

According to Vonderschmitt, the money raised at KYL will go directly to the playhouse’s operating expenses, including the productions and programs such as plays of all types, collaborative productions, comedy nights, guest lecturers, regionally recognized youth and adult education programs and the internationally acclaimed New Works Festival.

“As a non-profit organization we need fundraising dollars just to stay in the black," he said. "This event helps us do that.”
