The Long Beach Camerata Singers turns 50 this year and will present a host of new singers, the premiere of a new work commissioned for the milestone and an artistic partnership with the Long Beach Symphony, to celebrate just a few of its recent accomplishments over the past half-decade.

The 2015-16 season will include four performances by the choir, as well as four other events that are part of its annual Long Beach Bach Festival, of which three are free of charge.

According to the announcement, Artistic Director Dr. Rob Istad described the season as one that “will bring exceptional, diverse musical experiences to the people of our city."

“We are very excited to be celebrating our 50th anniversary this season and we look forward to serving our community with beautiful choral music for many years to come," said Camerata’s Board President, Jan Hower, in a statement,

The season will open on October 25 at 4:30PM with a concert entitled, Joy, Fantasy and Remembrance, starting off with Beethoven’s uplifting Choral Fantasy in C Minor, Opus 80 for piano, orchestra and chorus featuring keyboardist Tim Durkovic.

The celebratory evening will culminate with the world premiere of Long Beach composer Jenni Brandon’s new work, commissioned by Camerata for its 50th Anniversary. The concert will take place at the Long Beach City College (LBCC) Auditorium

On December 6 at 4:30PM, Camerata brings the sine qua non of holiday choral repertoire – Handel’s magnificent oratorio, The Messiah, to the LBCC Auditorium once again with its artistic partner, the Long Beach Symphony, alongside acclaimed guest soloists. This will be the eighth season the Camerata Singers has treated eager ears to this masterpiece, a holiday tradition that has earned both critical and popular acclaim.

The annual Long Beach Bach Festival, which Camerata has produced for 42 years, will run from April 2 to the 24, 2016. Camerata Singers opens the festival on April 2 at 4:30PM Baroque Brilliance: Bach’s Journey, featuring works by J.S. Bach, Dieterich Buxtehude, Heinrich Schutz, Michael Praetorius and Johann Hermann Schein. Other concerts on the roster for the Bach Festival include three free events.
