The Keep LBC Fit Obstacle Course and Wellness event, hosted by Groundwork Fitness, will take place on Saturday, April 18 from 12:00PM to 2:00PM at Lincoln Park in downtown Long Beach.
The seven-obstacle course is designed for everyone, from beginners to advanced levels, and, of course, kids. American Career College will supply a Wellness Tent for attendees to get their blood pressure, heart rate and blood glucose levels taken for free. Fresh & Easy will provide waters and snacks for those who complete the obstacle course.
Giovanna Ferraro, better known as “Gio,” owner of Groundwork Fitness, came up with the campaign, Keep LBC Fit, in an effort to share her fitness expertise with the local community and to encourage residents to get up and move, whether that means running a marathon or just walking around your block more often.
Ferraro said in a statement, “I get to live my dream of owning my own gym, which runs because of my local community trusting me with their health and fitness. Therefore, how can I not return the favor by giving back and helping impact our health statistics in Downtown? It's a mutual respect between me and my community, we take care of each other.”
Ferraro says she has seen what poor health statistics can do to a community and understands that Keeping LBC Fit is a task that reaches far outside the walls of Groundwork Fitness. This event will be one of many events and workshops designed to show that getting fit and staying fit can actually be fun.
“Fitness is a movement through walking, running, biking, swimming, dancing... any and all movement accepted,” she continued. “So find what works for you, support the movement. Let's KEEP LBC FIT and let's squash bad health statistics!”
The winner of the local photography contest, for which submissions are due April 15, will be presented at the event.
