A Chinese restaurant in the Bluff Heights area of Long Beach was closed for a day when health inspectors found seven live cockroaches late last week, Environmental Health Bureau Manager Nelson Kerr said.
During a routine inspection on Thursday, June 18, seven live cockroaches were observed in the food storage area—which is adjacent to the kitchen—of Chen’s Chinese Restaurant, Kerr said.
The restaurant also had refrigeration issues, both which prompted the closure of the restaurant due to the immediate health hazard.
Once the restaurant cleaned up the area and put an active pest control in place, the business was able to open up the next day, according to Kerr.
“We will continue to work with them to make sure they are operating safely,” Kerr said.
