Acting Long Beach City Health Officer Dr. Mauro Torno issued the rain advisory Thursday morning after the city experienced more than 0.1 inches of rainfall overnight.

The public should avoid recreational swimming areas for three days following the end of a rainstorm, officials stated.

“After any significant rainfall, unhealthy conditions may result from increased runoff from storm drain outlets and rivers, which eventually reach the City’s beaches,” the advisory stated.

The advisory will be in effect through February 20 and may be extended if additional rain happens before that date, officials said.
