Eight residents of a transitional living facility in the Willmore neighborhood of Long Beach were displaced by a fire Wednesday night, the Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) reported.
Three residents were at the apartment at the time and were alerted to the fire by a smoke detector. They were able to evacuate before firefighters arrived, according to authorities.
Neighbors unsuccessfully attempted to put out the fire with a fire extinguisher, officials said.
Fire units arriving to the 800 block of Chestnut Avenue at 7:06PM reported smoke and fire showing from the front unit of the single-story four-plex apartment complex, officials said.
The fire was confined to the front bedroom of the affected unit with firefighters putting it out at 7:12PM. A primary search was also completed at that time and no injuries were reported.
At the height of the fire, 22 firefighters were assigned to the incident. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The eight residents of the two-bedroom apartment were relocated by the property owner.
