Sergio Tapia was struck at 11:59PM on Thursday, November 19, Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey.

Tapia was riding north in the Number two traffic lane, when, “for unknown reasons, the bicyclist struck the roadway after losing control of his bicycle in the No. 2 lane,” according to a preliminary investigation by the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

“The driver of [a] Freightliner [truck] was unable to stop in time to avoid striking the bicyclist and bicycle,” the CHP stated. “The impact projected the bicycle towards the No. 1 lane, causing it to strike [a] white Cadillac.”

Authorities said both drivers remained at the scene, and neither was arrested.

Neither pedestrians nor bicyclists are permitted on the bridge, according to CHP officials.
