A teen girl was rescued by authorities from a Long Beach Freeway overpass Thursday morning after witnesses saw her hanging, according to the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD).
Officers were dispatched based off of an “unknown trouble” call near East Willow Street and the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway at 10:37AM on Thursday, February 11, LBPD spokesman Brad Johnson said.
“The caller indicated a female appeared to be hanging off the fence of the overpass and was concerned for her safety,” Johnson stated.
The location of the incident turned out to be the Wardlow Road overpass, and officials with the California Highway Patrol (CHP), Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department (LASD), and Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) responded to assist.
The teenage girl was safely removed from the overpass without incident, Johnson said.
LBPD Mental Evaluation Team officers also responded to provide further assistance.
The investigation remains ongoing.
