Torrance Man Killed in Motorcycle Crash Near 710 Freeway, Ocean Blvd. Identified

A 25-year-old motorcyclist was killed early Saturday morning when he struck a concrete barrier off a transition road going to the Long Beach (710) Freeway and fell onto Ocean Boulevard, authorities said.

The coroner’s office identified the motorcyclist, who was driving a 2015 Harley Davidson, as David Catena of Torrance. 

Officials said the driver was traveling eastbound on the Gerald Desmond Bridge transition road to the northbound 710 Freeway when he collided with k-rail as the roadway turned from eastbound to northbound. He was then ejected from the motorcycle onto Ocean Boulevard below.

Police were dispatched to the area at 1:06AM on Saturday, February 13, regarding the single vehicle traffic collision, according to a release from the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD). 

Arriving officers found the motorcyclist lying on eastbound Ocean Boulevard, below the transition road. Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) personnel determined him dead at the scene. 

No other vehicles or parties were involved.
