The Downtown Long Beach Alliance (DLBA), formerly the Downtown Long Beach Associates, has installed its new Board of Directors, in addition to voting in its new Executive Committee for the 2016-2017 fiscal year, according to the DLBA.

“When it comes to Downtown Long Beach, I am proud and optimistic of its future and look forward to the role this organization will play to help lead development and growth,” said Toliver Morris, chair of the DLBA Board of Directors, in a statement. “My motivation to serve as [chair] of the DLBA Board came from the sense of optimism that I’ve gained through the incredible things this organization does and how the Downtown revolves around truly great people—that includes the leaders that represent this Board.”

Ryan Altoon of Anderson Pacific was among the Executive Committee members elected. As chair-elect, Altoon is also charged with serving as the chair of the Board Development Committee, which involves recruiting new committee and board members for the year, according to the DLBA.

“The DLBA continues to provide a great value to the residents, businesses and stakeholders of Downtown; extending well beyond traditional services, while engaging with a growing and thriving urban community—a trend evidenced in Downtowns throughout the country,” stated Altoon. “Its focus on sustainability, walkability, economic development, public safety and special events – all meaningful impacts at the pedestrian level—are all reasons why I continue to proudly serve on this Board.”

The DLBA reached out to the downtown community in June, soliciting nominations for the board positions. The candidates were approved by the board of directors earlier this year and were ratified by thousands of stakeholders, according to the organization.

On the third Wednesday of even-numbered months the board of directors meets, while the Executive Committee meets on the first Thursday of every month. All DLBA board and committee meetings are open to the public, in compliance with the Brown Act, according to the DLBA.
