PT: Project Recognizes Female African-American Leaders

A recent Press-Telegram article brings to light the remarkable story of one woman’s efforts to chronicle those who championed the role of African-American women in Long Beach.

Carolyn Smith Watts’ idea quickly bloomed when she collaborated with the Long Beach Historical Society and a videographer, and now her collection – “Breaking Through, Lighting The Way” – encompasses video oral histories, a series of cable shows, a limited edition DVD and a book of photographs.

Check out the piece for the background story and more information, and visit videographer Sunny Nash’s website to see the finished products.
