The Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) announced Friday that officers from the LBPD DUI Enforcement Team will be deployed this weekend to stop and arrest alcohol and drug-impaired drivers as part of the Department’s ongoing traffic safety campaign.
DUI Saturation Patrols will be deployed on Saturday, July 18 between 7:00PM and 3:00AM in areas with high frequencies of DUI collisions and/or arrests.
According to the release, over the past three years, DUI collisions in Long Beach have claimed nine lives and injured 315 others.
In addition to those involved being affected, DUI’s also have an affect on the economy, according to the LBPD. The monetary impact of DUI incidents is $1.4 million for a fatality, $70,000 for an injury and an average of $9,000 for a crash that only damages property.
The program was funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety through a grant from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The LBPD would like to urge you to report drunk drivers by calling 9-1-1.
