Three men suspected of stealing a safe full of several firearms from an Orange County home were arrested in Long Beach on Saturday after a high-speed chase, according to officials with the Huntington Beach Police Department (HBPD).
According to HBPD spokeswoman Jennifer Marlatt, an officer observed a vehicle moving at a high rate of speed and going through red lights at 9:48PM on Saturday, December 26.
The suspects were initially observed driving out of a residential tract at Shields Drive and Edwards Street, Marlatt said.
When the officer attempted to stop the vehicle a pursuit ensued, she said, continuing onto the northbound Santa Monica (405) Freeway.
Once the suspects exited at Orange Avenue in Long Beach, police completed a PIT maneuver and stopped the vehicle, officials said.
Officers took three male suspects into custody and found a large safe containing several firearms in the car.
Upon further investigation, officers were able to identify a residence on the 17600 block of Summercloud Lane that had been broken into and missing a safe and firearms. The stolen items were then returned to the victims, who lived close to where the chase began.
Los Angeles resident Jonathan Antonio Lopez Mejia, 21, and Fontana resident Luis Alberto Tapia Pacheco, 27, were each arrested on charges of residential burglary and conspiracy to commit a crime.
Los Angeles man Angel Reynaldo Giron, 20, was arrested on charges of residential burglary, evading a peace office with wanton disregard for safety, conspiracy to commit a crime, driving under the influence of drugs, and possession of burglary tools.
