The Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) Traffic Section held the checkpoint on Saturday, January 23 between 7:00PM and 3:00AM. During the operation, 272 vehicles were screened, three field sobriety tests were performed, seven drivers were cited or arrested for operating a vehicle unlicensed or with a suspended or revoked license and four citations were issued for unsafe driving.

In a statement, the LBPD reminded readers that drunk driving is preventable, and recommended using the California Office of Traffic Safety Designated Driver VIP mobile app to find businesses offering incentives as a way to celebrate their life-saving commitment.

The LBPD will conduct another DUI Checkpoint on Saturday, February 20 in their “ongoing commitment to lowering deaths and injuries upon our streets and highways,” according to the release.

The checkpoint was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. To report a drunk driver, call 9-1-1.
