The interactive production, staged by The National Theatre for Children, is meant to teach students and their families how to stay safe around electricity through a live assembly performance featuring professional actors.

Students are also given a classroom curriculum, homework assignments, and activity books in English and Spanish that they can take home to their families.

The production teaches students how electricity works, how to identify hazardous situations and how to stay safe around electricity.

"A Bug’s Light! is a wonderful way to educate children early and often about the benefits and hazards of electricity in an entertaining environment,” said Don Neal, SCE’s director of Corporate Environmental, Health and Safety. “SCE wants our customers to understand electricity can be hazardous and we think this program is vital in that it educates our children and young adults as early as possible.”

There are 82 performances scheduled in 40 elementary schools across SCE’s service territory—including Long Beach, Bellflower, El Monte, Palm Desert, San Bernardino, Fontana, Santa Barbara, Visalia and Tulare.

The shows are scheduled to begin September 8 and continue through October 6.

Three performances are scheduled on Wednesday, September 9 at Long Beach’s Birney Elementary School, 710 West Spring Street, including 12:15, 12:50 and 1:25PM.
