Food Finders kicked off their annual holiday food drive in Long Beach and Los Angeles and Orange counties to begin collecting food for those in need this holiday season, the nonprofit announced last week. Hundreds of local families-in-need will receive a traditional holiday meal so many of us take for granted.

Story continued below.

Food Finders encourages neighborhoods, schools, libraries, and businesses to serve as drop-off locations for non-perishable food items and will provide collection bins for those interested in volunteering, according to the announcement. The food drive will continue through December 31.

“The generosity of our community contributing to the annual holiday food drive year after year ensures that more families can have a special meal at Thanksgiving and wholesome food for months following the holidays," said Patti Larson, executive director for Food Finders, in a statement.

In addition to accepting holiday meal staples, such as canned vegetables, stuffing, gravy and pie filling, Food Finders will also take pet food in an effort to assist pet owners and their four-legged friends. Click here to see the complete list of items needed.

“We are thankful for Food Finders donations - they help keep our pantries stocked and our community fed not just during the holidays but throughout the year,” added Chaplain Robert Probst, Executive Director of Long Beach Rescue Mission, in a statement.

Those who would like to make a monetary donation may do so by check or through the Food Finders website. A $25 donation will buy two turkeys, $50 will buy four turkeys and with every $25 increase, two additional turkeys can be purchased.

The annual Thanksgiving and Packing Sorting Event will take place on Friday, November 20 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church, located at 11600 Los Alamitos Boulevard in Los Alamitos. Volunteers are also needed to distribute donated food and turkeys to agencies and families on November 21 from 11:00AM to 2:00PM.

To volunteer for either of these events, please call Diana Lara at 562.283.1400, ext. 101. For drop off locations, call 562.283.1400 or visit the website here.
