One of the Long Beach Post’s founding principles is that vital information and news should be free to everyone, regardless of their ability to pay. To this end, the Long Beach Post has never had a paywall, or put a limit on the number of articles any user can read per month. The Long Beach Post is largely advertiser and grant funded, however, in 2018 we began asking those readers with the means to make a voluntary ongoing or occasional contribution to support our operations.
Reader support now accounts for nearly one-third of our overall funding. All contributions made to the Long Beach Post’s general fund go straight back into the newsroom, funding reporter jobs, special projects, and support staff to continue our mission of providing Long Beach with vital, fact-based reporting.
The Long Beach Post is a for-profit company, therefore contributions made directly to our general fund are not tax deductible. However, we work with nonprofit organizations as funding partners to make tax deductible giving options available.
