A crowdfunding project commenced Monday through BEACHfunder, the Cal State Long Beach (CSULB) crowdfunding platform, aimed at raising money for a scholarship to fund international study in the name of Nohemi Gonzalez

Gonzalez, 23, was a junior majoring in industrial design at Cal State Long Beach, who was killed while studying abroad in Paris during the November 13 terrorist attacks. As of 4:36PM, $846 out of a goal of $25,000 had been raised on the site.

“The Beach family is heartbroken over the tragic loss of Nohemi Gonzalez and deeply grateful for the many expressions of comfort and support that have poured in to the university from across the country and around the globe,” the site states. “ In keeping with her family’s wishes, the Nohemi Gonzalez Fund to Support International Study will assist CSULB students with international travel and study-abroad opportunities.”

The fundraising period is set to end on January 1, 2016 at 11:00PM.

On Friday, Gonzalez was at a restaurant in Paris with other students, including CSULB students, when she was shot by an attacker.

School officials said Gonzalez was one of 17 CSULB students studying abroad in Paris, the other 16 of whom have been located and found safe.

Gonzalez was in Paris completing a semester study abroad program with the Strate College of Design and was part of a team that recently won second place in the international biomimicry Global Design Challenge.

“A ‘shining star’ within the department, Nohemi is remembered for her warmth, humor, kindness, enthusiasm, creativity, drive, ‘unforgettable smile,’ and ‘indescribably sweet spirit,’” the crowdfunding site states. “ She had a profoundly positive impact on her department, university, and community.”
