Long Beach Police Arrest Four in North Long Beach DUI Checkpoint • Long Beach Post

The Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) arrested four individuals for multiple crimes during its eight-hour DUI checkpoint in North Long Beach Saturday, officials announced.

The checkpoint occurred from 7:00PM to 3:00AM Saturday at southbound Cherry Avenue and 45th Street on July 11 and yielded four total arrests, including two DUI arrests, one Stolen Vehicle arrest and one Misdemeanor Warrant arrest.

A release stated that officers also issued seven citations for unlicensed driving and 11 citations for unsafe driving, in addition to storing two vehicles related to the DUI arrests after conducting two field sobriety tests.

The checkpoint counted a total of 983 vehicles passing through, with 222 drivers screened for driving under the influence.

According to LBPD, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) checkpoints are one of the most effective DUI enforcement strategies and have yielded considerable cost savings of $6 for every $1 spent.

The checkpoint was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Report Drunk Drivers, Call 9-1-1!
