The family of Geron Lacy, the 16-year-old killed in a possible gang-related shooting Tuesday evening in the Ramona Park neighborhood of North Long Beach, has announced a candlelight prayer vigil set for Friday.

Antonio Gilbreath, who identified himself as Lacy’s uncle on Facebook, wrote a post Thursday outlining the details of the vigil, which will occur Friday on the corner of 65th and Obispo at 6:30PM. Attendees are asked to bring candles to the event.

“I’ve experienced my share of losses in my life, and death is no stranger,” wrote Gilbreath. “I’ve seen the ugliness of its wake so often that the numbers sound unbelievable. We all have a date when we are to leave this life, but the young and the frequency of lives being lost quite unnaturally numbs you.

Lacy was shot while walking home from a basketball game, according to Gilbreath.

The LBPD said they were dispatched to the 3300 block of East 65th Street around 6:50PM regarding a hit shooting.

Upon arrival, they discovered a 16-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper torso. The Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) also responded and determined the victim deceased at the scene, according to Johnson.

Later, police said Lacy may have been involved in a physical altercation with the suspects on the street, before the suspects returned to the location and shot the victim.

The LBPD said the incident is being investigated as possibly gang-related.
