Tomorrow is National Voter Registration Day, and the City of Long Beach is celebrating accordingly.

Beginning with an assembly at Jordan High School tomorrow, Long Beach City Clerk Maria de la Luz will be spearheading a week of voter registration drives and voter education presentations at local high schools throughout Long Beach, including Cabrillo, Jordan and Wilson High Schools, the city announced today.

“National Voter Registration Day is an opportunity for us to start a conversation about the importance of voting,” said City Clerk Maria de la Luz Garcia in a statement. “This year being the 50th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act highlights the importance of participating in our democracy. Registering to vote is a great way to honor our past and promote our future.”

According to a release, Tuesday’s assembly at Jordan High School will include presentations by California Secretary of State Alex Padilla, Long Beach City Councilman Rex Richardson and Long Beach Unified School District (LBUSD) board member Megan Kerr. Registration began today at the school, and will continue through Tuesday.

A voter registration drive will take place at Wilson High School all week, and a voter registration day and drive-in will occur at Cabrillo High School on Thursday, September 24, 2015.
