UPDATE: New Details Emerge Regarding Pedestrian Death in Downtown Long Beach • Long Beach Post

UPDATE | The 66-year-old man who died yesterday after being struck by a 22-year-old motorist from Redondo Beach had been walking on a crosswalk against a red light, according to authorities.

After the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) was dispatched to the intersection of Pacific Avenue and Broadway on a traffic collision call, they assisted Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputies with performing CPR on the man.

The Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) reportedly arrived shortly after, before the pedestrian succumbed to major head and body trauma. He was declared deceased at the scene, according to the LBPD.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the 22-year-old was driving a Ford Fusion southbound on Pacific Avenue in the number two lane. He was approaching Broadway on a green light when he hit the pedestrian, who was walking against a red light on the crosswalk, officials said.

The pedestrian is only being identified as a 66-year-old, pending next of kin, according to authorities.

On 10/19/2016 AT 10:55AM | A man died this morning after colliding with a car in downtown Long Beach, officials said.

According to Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) spokeswoman Marlene Arrona, officers were dispatched at 8:15AM to the area of West Broadway and Pacific Avenue regarding an injury traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.

The Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) declared the man dead at the scene, Arrona said.

Collision Investigation Detectives have responded to begin their investigation and the investigation is ongoing.
