Matt is a second-generation Long Beach resident.  While attending USC, he studied news writing with Joe Sullivan, West Coast Bureau Chief at CBS News. 

After leaving college, he pursued a career in music. 

He got his big break with the Long Beach Post thanks to fellow Trojan and former Post Editor Sarah Bennett.
