Today, we explore swimming pools you probably didn’t know you could dip into in Long Beach, including the city’s only rooftop pool and bar. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Heat wave? Just add water.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Remember when I said<\/a> that I’d probably regret bidding adieu to this year’s extended gloom<\/strong>? Well, I’m trying to get ahead of that scenario by planning my summer (and yours) accordingly, because we’re hitting 80 degree weather this week and it’s likely only going to get stickier this summer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Welcome to Day Two<\/strong> of a heat wave<\/a> that is expected to fry some Southland communities this week. For Long Beach dwellers, it’s only going to get up to a high of 85 degrees. This is pool party weather and it screams bikinis and martinis\u2014er, maybe just poolside martinis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anyway, did you know that you don’t have to be a guest at the Hyatt Centric<\/strong> to spend a day at their rooftop pool? Feels illegal, doesn’t it? Well it’s not and they’re even offering OTC subscribers a discount code, which you can find below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Depending on how much you’re willing to spend, you and yours can grab a day pass to a handful of resort pools in the city. You can also rent your own private pool for the day\u2014details later. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If spending $35+ for a day at the pool is sounding a tad frivolous in this economy<\/strong>, here’s a list of public pools in Long Beach<\/a> to cool off at this summer and they’re all family friendly. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zinc your nose, grab your goggles and let’s dive<\/em> into some options: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Topsail Rooftop Pool at<\/strong> Hyatt Centric <\/strong>– $35+ <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

What:<\/strong> The Hyatt Centric tells me that it is home to the city’s only accessible rooftop pool, which has 360 views of the Pike and Downtown. It’s a small but intimate pool area that has a pretty crucial balance of sun exposure and shade. It’s also very windprotected. If you go up on weekends you can also order beer, wine cocktails and small plates from the rooftop bar. Note: This spot doesn’t have a jacuzzi. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

When:<\/strong> The pool is open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.<\/strong> but those hours could be extended this summer, hotel officials told me. The Topsail Rooftop Bar is open Satuday and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

How much: <\/strong>On ResortPass<\/a>, you can book a day and time to visit the pool. Monday through Thursday passes are $35<\/strong> for adults <\/strong>and $15<\/strong> for kids; Friday through Sunday passes are $45<\/strong> for adults and $15<\/strong> for kids. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wanna make it bouji? Cabanas can be rented on weekdays for $175<\/strong> and for $300<\/strong> on weekends. Daybeds are $90<\/strong> on weekdays and $180<\/strong> on weekends. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also see the Hyatt Regency’s $20<\/strong> pool pass.<\/a> The Downtown swimming hole has a whirlpool and a large outdoor lounge area, which abuts the Rainbow Lagoon. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pool, jacuzzi, giant chess and more at Hotel Maya <\/strong>– $50+<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

What:<\/strong> There’s a reason why day passes at Hotel Maya are a wee bit pricier than others on this list\u2014they have amenities, many. Here, you can daycation with a large heated pool, a jacuzzi, food and drink service, a private sand beach and games, including giant chess and ping-pong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When: <\/strong>Open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How much:<\/strong> $50<\/strong> to use the pool and its amenities (even for kids) and $300<\/strong> to rent a poolside cabanas for four people. Book here<\/a> and make sure you try to snag a pass ahead of time. It’s a popular summer spot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They also give you a free cookie when you roll up. Isn’t that cute? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

111 Pool + Lounge at Renaissance Long Beach Hotel<\/strong> – $30+<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

What<\/strong>: From the third floor pool and jacuzzi at the Renaissance hotel on the Promenade, you can gawk at views of the Ocean and Ms. Queen Mary. This pool area also includes corn hole and a pool table. You can also grab a bite or a cocktail from from SIP Bar + Lounge, Promenade Cafe or The Market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When:<\/strong> The pool is open daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and SIP Bar + Lounge is open daily from noon to 11 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How much<\/strong>: $30 for adults, $20 for kids and free for infants. Book and find more information here<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Book a private pool in Long Beach on Swimply<\/strong> – $65+ <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

What:<\/strong> Okay, hear me out. This “Heated Tropical Paradise” at the Long Beach residence pictured above has a salt water pool, a waterslide, a waterfall, a grotto, LED color changing lights for night swimming, a jacuzzi, outdoor TVs and Bluetooth speakers all available to rent by the hour on Swimply<\/a> (the Airbnb of swimming pool rentals).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How much:<\/strong> At a property like this one, you can host a (modest sized) pool party with 10 friends on a Saturday for 4.5 hours for $382.50<\/strong>. Get your 10 friends to fork over $38.50<\/strong> each and you’ve got yourself a private pool that beats most of the prices on ResortPass<\/strong>. Quick tip:<\/strong> Do not fall asleep on one of those poolside lounge chairs after drinking a mojito (or three). I made this mistake in 2019 and I’m still working on fixing those tan lines.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
