I learned a new term this week: sludge metal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The slower, more melodic take on heavy metal is the chosen craft of Jezebel, one of the bands competing in this weekend’s Battle of the Bands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The four Renaissance High School students honed their set list by practicing in a Los Altos garage and coordinating rides to get there since none of them even have their licenses yet. Now, they have the chance to compete against other student-formed bands from all across Long Beach. On the table are cash, studio time and bragging rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You should check them out on Saturday<\/a>. I bet you’ll feel energized by the creativity and drive of the next generation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
