{"id":10407,"date":"2019-11-20T11:17:31","date_gmt":"2019-11-20T19:17:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/hi-lo\/?p=30000004532"},"modified":"2020-02-24T12:19:00","modified_gmt":"2020-02-24T20:19:00","slug":"addison-restauration-open-final","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/esd\/hi-lo\/addison-restauration-open-final","title":{"rendered":"Restauration re-opens with fall-meets-brunch-all-day menu"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/life\/food\/fire-4th-street-bistro-restauration\/\">facing a fire<\/a> that all but burned down the entire building, Restauration, the Fourth Street bistro and patio owned by Dana Tanner and chef Philip Pretty, is officially re-opening today.<\/p>\n<p>After a false alarm earlier this year\u2014high hopes allowed Tanner to say they would be reopening on Mother\u2019s Day, only to encounter further setbacks\u2014and hopes that they would be open by October, Pretty is now ready to show off his fall-meets-brunch-all-day menu.<\/p>\n<p>What this means are plates of Nashville hot sweetbreads, gorgeously plated on a swirling of cr\u00e8me fra\u00eeche and buttermilk, red Belgian endive, slivers of pickled onion, and plucks of fresh dill.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_10000008839\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10000008839\" style=\"width: 2988px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/hi-lo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/30A050BF-6123-4530-82A3-BBFB56E097D2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-10000008839\" src=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/hi-lo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/30A050BF-6123-4530-82A3-BBFB56E097D2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2988\" height=\"2988\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-10000008839\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Restauration&#8217;s duck confit and waffle. Photo by Brian Addison.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>A gorgeous duck leg confit plate\u2014a beautifully battered duck leg and thigh, deep fried\u2014that sits next to a quite wonderful waffle, a fig syrup acting as your sweet slice through the salt and carbs.<\/p>\n<p>A braised-then-fried octopus, sitting atop a house made Caesar dressing and nestled between chunks of celery hearts and chickpeas, that is meaty, succulent and worth sharing with the entire table.<\/p>\n<p>A pork belly breakfast dish that is so straight-forward that it marks a warm welcoming: nothing more than two perfectly sunnyside up eggs, a charred slice of tomato, potatoes and toast to accompany a wonderfully fatty, carefully crisped piece of pork belly.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_10000008840\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10000008840\" style=\"width: 3024px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/hi-lo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/9BA16906-E13A-4D36-8784-83E7ED673146.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-10000008840\" src=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/hi-lo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/9BA16906-E13A-4D36-8784-83E7ED673146.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"3024\" height=\"3151\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-10000008840\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Restauration&#8217;s twice-cooked octopus. Photo by Brian Addison.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Pretty is back\u2014and he comes with a menu that, as is his talent, shows off some culinary skills but lacks pretense.<\/p>\n<p>The return of Restauration is sure to receive a warm &#8220;Welcome back!&#8221; from the neighborhood since it will add a sense of comfort to the small cluster of businesses near Fourth Street and Temple Avenue that has seen massive changes in its overall aura: <a href=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/life\/food\/long-beach-foodie-update-kafe-neo-abruptly-shutters-doors\/\">Kafe Neo closed<\/a>\u00a0up shop to make way for a marijuana dispensary;\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/life\/food\/do-good-donuts-treats-announces-it-will-close-up-shop-at-end-of-week\/\">Do Good Donuts closed<\/a> after being open for less than a year but has made way for the success of <a href=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/hi-lo\/food\/addison-vegan-ice-cream-hug-life\/\">the Hug Life ice cream parlor<\/a>; and Mr. Makoto, the ramen shop from the folks behind <a href=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/life\/food\/seoulmate-closed-korean-fusion-food\/\">the now-shuttered Seoulmate<\/a>, was only open for a few months before\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/life\/food\/mr-makoto-anandamide-retro-row-closed\/\">closing its doors<\/a> but is now home to<a href=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/hi-lo\/the-chef-behind-rice-shines-brunch-pop-ups-is-opening-the-first-modern-filipino-restaurant-in-long-beach\"> Chef AC Boral\u2019s debut Filipino fusion joint<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_10000008837\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10000008837\" style=\"width: 2302px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/hi-lo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/8C57F5BA-5469-4BBF-8D1D-52C989CE56A4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-10000008837\" src=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/hi-lo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/8C57F5BA-5469-4BBF-8D1D-52C989CE56A4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2302\" height=\"2302\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-10000008837\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Restauration&#8217;s pork belly breakfast dish. Photo by Brian Addison.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Having\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/life\/food\/restauration-hopes-stable-success-will-come-to-a-building-that-has-been-a-revolving-door-for-restaurants\/\">opened in 2014<\/a>, Restauration took over a building that had long been mired with unsuccessful restaurants. Since then, it has held a reputation for upping the city\u2019s food game (and was named by the Post as <a href=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/life\/food\/15-best-restaurants-long-beach-2017-edition\/\">one of the city\u2019s best restaurants<\/a>), especially since Tanner took on Pretty as its head-of-kitchen.<\/p>\n<p>The pair\u2014Tanner made Pretty a full-time partner in the restaurant shortly after hiring him\u2014made the restaurant boom with creativity, color and coolness while its community involvement increased, partially because of the pair\u2019s support of urban farming. This harmonious relationship shows not only the power of keeping it local but allows Pretty to offer what was Long Beach&#8217;s first taste of a bonafide California bistro.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_10000008838\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10000008838\" style=\"width: 3024px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/hi-lo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/215ED6E2-0481-4BCC-B3B3-F59FF7843F45.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-10000008838\" src=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/hi-lo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/215ED6E2-0481-4BCC-B3B3-F59FF7843F45.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"3024\" height=\"3779\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-10000008838\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Restauration&#8217;s carrot cake dessert.
