Muldoon\u2019s Saloon in North Long Beach will be holding a fundraiser this Sunday for a former Long Beach resident who is credited with saving people before he was shot earlier this month during the Route 91 Harvest Country Music Festival in the country\u2019s worst mass shooting in modern history.<\/p>\n

Patrick Conlon, owner of the dive bar, said he decided to create the fundraiser for Jonathan Smith, who currently resides in Buena Park, after meeting him at a fundraiser in Paramount organized by We Charge LA, an active Los Angeles Chargers fan club.<\/p>\n

\u201cI myself am a Charger fan and was very impressed that he legitimately risked his life to help other people he\u2019d probably never even met before,\u201d Conlon told the Post<\/em> in an email. \u201cThe guy was shot and that bullet could have landed somewhere fatal and that would be the end of everything for him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Not only are both Conlon and Smith Chargers fans (Smith got to tour the Chargers\u2019 practice facility and meet some athletes<\/a>)\u00a0but Smith also used to live across the street from Muldoon\u2019s, which recently declared itself a Chargers bar<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt just made sense to throw the event for Jonathan,\u201d Conlon added.<\/p>\n

Smith is credited with ushering people to safety before he was shot in the neck, resulting in a fractured collarbone, a cracked rib and a bruised lung, according to the Washington Post<\/a> which profiled his heroism soon after the shooting.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cHe didn\u2019t have to do this [fundraiser],\u201d Smith told the Post<\/em>. \u201cBut it\u2019s a blessing and an honor.\u201d<\/p>\n

Smith said while the healing process is coming along he still has pain in his arm and neck which has left him without being able to go back to work.<\/p>\n

Muldoon\u2019s will donate part of its proceeds to Smith to go toward his medical bills from 8:00AM to 8:00PM on Sunday, October 29 when the Chargers take on the New England Patriots. Guests can also write out checks to Smith who will be in attendance.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe encourage people to drink responsibly but drink until right before it becomes irresponsible,\u201d Conlon advised. \u201cLet\u2019s raise some funds for this guy!\u201d<\/p>\n

Muldoon\u2019s is located at 5646 North Paramount Boulevard.<\/em><\/p>\n
