Photos courtesy of the Carpenter Center.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Three internationally renowned dance companies are coming to Long Beach to perform at the Richard and Karen Carpenter Performing Arts Center at Cal State Long Beach during its 2017-2018 Dance Series.<\/p>\n<p>The series kicks off Saturday, October 7 with the West Coast premier of <em>Glow<\/em> from Long Island City-based <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/JessicaLangDance\/\">Jessica Lang Dance<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/JessicaLangDance\/.\">.<\/a> A Juilliard graduate and former Twyla Tharp dancer, Lang\u2019s artistic direction blends contemporary dance and traditional ballet, creating compelling visual experiences that have taken the company to The Music Center, Brooklyn Academy and the John F. Kennedy Center.<\/p>\n<p><em>Glow,<\/em> which premiered at the 2017 Jacob\u2019s Pillow Dance Festival, incorporates neon design elements into an uplifting performance. The engagement will also include Lang\u2019s solo, <em>The Calling<\/em>, as well as <em>Thousand Yard Stare<\/em>, which was nominated for a 2017 Bessie Award for Outstanding Production.<\/p>\n<p><em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-56029\" src=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/06NWDanceProject2.jpg\" alt=\"06NWDanceProject2\" width=\"620\" height=\"413\" \/><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Image from NW Dance Project.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Described as \u201cone of the hottest dance companies\u201d by WE Vancouver, next up is Portland-based <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/NWDanceProject\/\">NW Dance Project<\/a>, with award-winning choreographer Sarah Slipper at the helm. Inspired by Virginia Woolf\u2019s \u201cMrs. Dalloway,\u201d <em>Woolf Papers<\/em> transforms the writer\u2019s words into a rich performance, bringing a \u201cdeeply theatrical\u201d contemporary dance to the Carpenter stage on Saturday, November 11.<\/p>\n<p>The series closes with <em>Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo<\/em>, \u201cpromising to be the funniest night of the ballet one may ever experience,\u201d according to the release. On Sunday, January 21, 2018 the all-male ballet will delight viewers with its unique mix of grand comedy and technical prowess.
