Posting subject to approval.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"margin-bottom: 6pt;\">Virtually Pets<\/h2>\n<p>A lot of flap and snark about pit bull breeds has really gotten a lot of people cheesed off, me included. Mind, I\u2019m a cat person and have no desire to own a dog, pit bull or otherwise, but I\u2019ve acquired a taste for them over the years since I\u2019ve met my first one that was owned by a loving human being who hadn\u2019t adopted her to guard something nefarious or intimidate people. I\u2019ve only met one I\u2019ve been afraid of, and that\u2019s because his owner\u2019s a jackass. And I know a lot of great, goofy, silly ones.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s upsetting to hear people say that the entire breed should be banned\u2014one soft-spoken lady at an adoption event gave me her strong opinion that they should all be killed. I held my tongue\u2014the most soft-spoken reply I could think of to say was, \u201cDon\u2019t talk about my friends like that.\u201d Of course, they\u2019re a powerful breed and owners need to be able to handle their strength and enthusiasm, but yeah, if I wanted a dog, I\u2019d consider one.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s one for you to consider, and she was rescued by an entire organization of cat people.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-55870\" src=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Pebbles1_-_Copy.jpg\" alt=\"Pebbles1 - Copy\" width=\"640\" height=\"854\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-55871\" src=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/pebbles_2.jpg\" alt=\"pebbles 2\" width=\"620\" height=\"896\" \/><\/p>\n<p> <center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/video.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Flongbeachpost%2Fvideos%2F10155573613600256%2F&amp;show_text=0&amp;width=560\" scrolling=\"no\" width=\"560\" height=\"995\" allowtransparency=\"true\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" style=\"border: none; overflow: hidden;\"><\/iframe><\/center> <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kittykatchers.com\/\">Kitty Katchers\u00a0<\/a>of Lakewood found <strong>Pebbles<\/strong> tied to a shopping cart rack at the Signal Hill PetSmart in the pouring rain. She was sent to the shelter for four months and then moved to\u00a0a boarding facility and lives in a dog run. \u00a0She is approximately six years and very sweet to people. She needs a home where she would be the only pet. You, maybe?<\/p>\n<p>And I\u2019d be remiss to not include a couple of Kitty Katchers cats who also have special needs:<\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-55872\" src=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/LALA_THREE_-_Copy.jpg\" alt=\"LALA THREE - Copy\" width=\"640\" height=\"854\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-55873\" src=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/SYLVESTER_-_Copy.jpg\" alt=\"SYLVESTER - Copy\" width=\"640\" height=\"854\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Lala<\/strong> and <strong>Sylvester <\/strong>are 6-month-old kittens with a non-life-threatening condition called cerebral hypoplasia (CP). They\u2019re adorable and sweet, with ears forever, and real lap sitters. They\u2019ll both walk like the Minister of Silly Walks for the rest of their lives, but in a loving home, these lives will be as long as that of any otherwise normal kitty!<\/p>\n<p><em>To adopt any of these pets or see more of the ones who are beneficiaries of Kitty Katchers\u2019 kindness, email <a href=\"mailto:DISDAR1@aol.com\">DISDAR1@aol.com<\/a> or call (562) 254-0558.<\/em><\/p>\n<h2>Countin\u2019 the Days in Humane Ways<\/h2>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in 0in 18.75pt; background-image: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-attachment: initial;\">It seems as if every year, numerous pet calendars crop up faster than you can say \u201cpenthouse.\u201d They aren\u2019t the ones you can buy online or at bookstores\u2014full-color glossies of strangers with fur, feathers or scales adorning each month. The pets in these calendars live in actual homes\u2014maybe yours\u2014and are selected through donations to pet rescues. I figured that a separate section is in order until the entry deadline.
