(And, if you&#8217;re lucky,\u00a0<em>conchinita pibil<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p>While Los Angeles has long been able to enjoy the Mexican response to a panini-meets-dipped sandwich\u2014DTLA&#8217;s Casa La Do\u00f1a immediately comes to mind though this Long Beach version is even better, to be frank\u2014there&#8217;s never been the offering here in Long Beach that I know of.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>pambazo<\/em> is essentially a griddled version of a\u00a0<em>torta ahogada<\/em>\u2014and the result is spectacular: a charred, smoky sandwich\u2014its bread dipped a spicy chile sauce\u2014filled with melted cheese, chorizo, and potatoes, and then cooled with some cold toppings like lettuce and Mexican crema.<\/p>\n<p>They&#8217;re served in everywhere from Vera Cruz to Mexico City and are a staple in the rich, unrivaled food cart culture that pervades Mexico.<\/p>\n<p>Though not on the menu,\u00a0<em>conchinita pibil\u00a0<\/em>is a rarity at even the most seasoned of Mexican joints and served occasionally as a special at Villas. The Yucatan-based barbeque pork (wrapped in banana leaves) is sweet, with\u00a0achiote coming out to give a subtle heat that is hard to call straight-up spicy.<\/p>\n<p>In other words, Long Beach: go.<\/p>\n<address>Villas Comida Mexicana is located at 755 W Willow St.<\/address>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Want to see all our Long Beach Foodie Updates?
