Photos by Asia Morris.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Long Beach\u2019s fourth Open Street event, Beach Streets University, is coming to the city\u2019s East Side this Saturday from 11:00AM to 5:00PM.<\/p>\n<p>The public is invited to cycle, skate, scooter and more along the car-free route. The event kick-off will take place in front of the Walter Pyramid at Cal State Long Beach (CSULB) at 11:00AM.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am thrilled to see how Beach Streets is embraced by the community,\u201d Mayor Robert Garcia said in a statement. \u201cBeach Streets University will be a great way to build a connection with CSULB\u2019s students, staff, faculty, and all Long Beach residents.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The route will include Atherton Street in front of CSULB, Bellflower Boulevard and Los Coyotes Diagonal, and Spring Street, between Bellflower Boulevard and Studebaker Road, according to the announcement.<\/p>\n<p> <center> <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">We are almost ready for Beach Streets on 4\/29 &#8211; what about you? <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/GoLongBeach?src=hash\">#GoLongBeach<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/yLKzjNLUxU\">pic.twitter.com\/yLKzjNLUxU<\/a><\/p>\n<p> \u2014 LB Public Works (@LBPublicWorks) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LBPublicWorks\/status\/855545073353863168\">April 21, 2017<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p> <script charset=\"utf-8\" type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" async=\"\"><\/script> <\/center> <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Beach Streets is a terrific, local event that brings ours neighbors, businesses, and community groups together,&#8221; Councilwoman Stacy Mungo said in a statement. &#8220;We&#8217;re excited for this wonderful celebration full of outdoor activities, music, food, and family fun, to captivate the east side of town.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>BMX Freestyle Team demonstrations and live performances by Long Beach local bands such as Knyght Ryder, Forest of Tongue and Big Sun will liven up the Beach Streets University route. Several local businesses, community groups and organizations will also be participating, promoting activities that encourage healthy living for everyone.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-53988\" src=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/dsc_0351_900x602.jpg\" alt=\"dsc 0351 900x602\" width=\"620\" height=\"415\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Whaley Park will be home to the \u201cKids Hub,\u201d where fun activities will be available to children, such as decorating bikes and rock climbing. There will also be a public skate park at the \u201cExtreme Hub,\u201d located at the end of the route on Spring Street and Palo Verde Avenue.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLast November, Beach Streets Midtown covered the west end of the Fourth District along the Anaheim Corridor,\u201d Councilmember Daryl Supernaw said in a statement. \u201cI am excited to see this upcoming event take place in the east end of our district.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Thousands of people have participated in the City\u2019s first three Open Street events: <a href=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/place\/in-pictures-beach-streets-uptown-3\/\">Beach Streets Uptown<\/a> held on June 6, 2015, Beach Streets Downtown held on March 19, 2016 and Beach Streets Midtown held most recently on November 12, 2016.<\/p>\n<hr style=\"width:100%; float:left;\" \/>\n<div style=\"width: 100%; float: left;\">\n<div style=\"width: 100px; height: 100px; background-image: url('images\/asia\/beachstreetsuptown\/dsc_0383_900x602.jpg'); background-size: cover; background-position: center center; float: left; margin-right: 30px; display:none;\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<p> <small style=\"font-weight: lighter;\">RELATED<\/small> <\/p>\n<h2 ><a onclick=\"ga('send', 'event', 'Related Link', 'click', 'Realted Link v1');\" href=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/place\/in-pictures-beach-streets-uptown-3\/\">IN PICTURES: Beach Streets Uptown Transforms Atlantic Avenue into Long Beach&#8217;s First Ciclov\u00eda<\/a><\/h2>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"width: 100%; height: 0;\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<hr style=\"width:100%; float:left;\" \/>\n<p>\u201cBeach Streets is always a great way to bring the community together and a great source of fun for the whole family,\u201d Councilwoman Suzie Price said in a statement. \u201cIt\u2019s an opportunity to get some fresh air and check out new neighborhoods.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Intersections for vehicles to cross will be maintained along Bellflower Boulevard, Los Coyotes Diagonal, and Spring Street. Acceptable modes of transportation for the event are: bicycles, skates, rollerblades, skateboards, and walking. The only motorized vehicles allowed are ones officially marked as a means of transportation for those with disabilities, according to the release.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-53989\" src=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/dsc_0386_900x602.jpg\" alt=\"dsc 0386 900x602\" width=\"620\" height=\"415\" \/><\/p>\n<p>New to this upcoming Beach Streets, attendees can access an innovative digital guide, developed by Beacon Interactive, that uses Bluetooth low energy beacons to send useful content about Beach Streets University to smartphones within a predetermined area.<\/p>\n<p>To use the guide, event goers must install Google Chrome internet browser on their smartphones, and Bluetooth and Location Services must be turned on.
