Proceeds from the evening will benefit the nonprofit\u2019s efforts to bring much needed electricity to the property.<\/p>\n \u201cWith recent vandalism and safety and security concerns<\/a>, our need for electricity is greater than ever,\u201d Farm Lot 59 founder and farmer Sasha Kanno said in a statement. \u201cWe\u2019re excited to partner with Roe to help raise the funds needed to install power to the property so the farm can continue its mission to service the community and provide our youth with an \u2018edible education.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n RELATED<\/small> <\/p>\n While not the first time the farm has been vandalized, the worst, and most recent occurrence took place in November, damaging irrigation systems and micro greens, resulting in an estimated property damage of a little over $2,000.<\/p>\n Installing power at Farm Lot 59 will cost $15,000, according to the announcement. Those unable to attend the event and wishing to support the \u201cHelp Us Turn on the Power\u201d campaign may donate via the website here<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cConsidering Farm Lot 59 supplies produce to Roe and other restaurants in Long Beach, as well as offers an educational Living Classroom experience on the property for our city\u2019s children, we feel it is important to do our part to help fund its efforts to bring electricity to the farm,\u201d said Chef Art Gonzalez, chef and owner of both Roe Seafood and Panxa Cocina, in a statement. \u201cWe\u2019d love to see all of Long Beach support this one-of-a-kind agricultural treasure nestled in the middle of our bustling city.\u201d<\/p>\n Returning home from the 37th annual EcoFarm Conference in Monterey County, Kanno shared an inspired call to end food insecurity with the Post\u2019s readers last month, compelling the city\u2019s locals to stop by the farm, participate and give back.
