{"id":15390,"date":"2020-04-28T15:05:38","date_gmt":"2020-04-28T22:05:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/hi-lo\/?p=30000010120"},"modified":"2020-04-28T15:38:20","modified_gmt":"2020-04-28T22:38:20","slug":"steel-magnolias-gets-creative-with-event-to-benefit-stramski-childrens-center","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/esd\/hi-lo\/steel-magnolias-gets-creative-with-event-to-benefit-stramski-childrens-center","title":{"rendered":"Steel Magnolias gets creative with event to benefit Stramski Children&#8217;s Center"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Over the past two decades Steel Magnolias, an all-volunteer organization based in Long Beach, has raised nearly $6 million in support of its main beneficiary, the Stramski Children\u2019s Developmental Center at Millers Children\u2019s and Women\u2019s Hospital, serving children with behavior and development challenges, including autism.<\/p>\n<p>But this year, instead of its signature event, which typically raises more than $100,000 in one go, the organization has had to pivot to a safer-at-home style alternative. So, instead of celebrating its 21st anniversary at the Museum of Latin American Art this Sunday, Steel Magnolias purchased $7,000 worth of gift cards from local restaurants, specifically ones that have donated to the organization over the years, in the spirit of giving back to establishments that are now in need of assistance.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_10000018836\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10000018836\" style=\"width: 225px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-10000018836 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/img.lbpost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/28131623\/IMG_1316-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-10000018836\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A Steel Magnolias fundraising event, Bon Appetaste at Friedmans Home Experience, in 2018. Courtesy Steel Magnolias.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&#8220;We felt they needed our support now more than ever, and we\u2019re hoping the public will get behind this and participate in Dine Local and Do Good by purchasing an opportunity ticket for $100 each or a Bonus Ticket for $125,&#8221; said Denise Dahlhausen, president of Steel Magnolias.<\/p>\n<p>Going on now through May 28, Dine Local &amp; Do Good opportunity tickets are available to purchase for a chance to win a mix of gift cards from restaurants including Michael&#8217;s On Naples, EJ&#8217;s Pub, Santa Fe Importers, Michael&#8217;s Pizzeria, The Crooked Duck, Naples Rib Co., Joe Jost&#8217;s and The Wine Country, as well as the chance to &#8220;Pay it Forward&#8221; by sending gift cards to other nonprofits, first responders as well as those on the frontlines of the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>Of 400 tickets available, there will be 10 winners to be announced on June 1 on Facebook Live.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is completely unchartered territory for us,\u201d said Dahlhausen. \u201cBut Steel Magnolias exists to support children\u2019s health and we still need to fulfill our 2020 goals for helping children and families.
