A lot of factors are at work here; the article mentioned most of them, and I\u2019ll repeat it: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.longbeach.gov\/ACS\">Long Beach Animal Care Services<\/a> (ACS) staff and volunteers\u2019\u00a0own efforts to publicize cats, dogs and rabbits through their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/LongBeachAnimalCare\/\">Facebook page<\/a>\u00a0and other social media as well as offsite adoption events; low-cost or no-cost spay\/neuter resources, notably <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fixlongbeach.com\">Fix Long Beach\u00a0<\/a>and the vouchers provided by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.folba.org\">Friends of Long Beach Animals<\/a>; and a ton of rescuers too numerous to name but that have all been featured in The Scratching Post. Disclaimer: I\u2019ve supported them all.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-52437\" style=\"vertical-align: middle;\" src=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/stats2.jpg\" alt=\"stats2\" width=\"620\" height=\"467\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Live release includes adoptions, release to rescues and pet\/owner reunion. Graph courtesy of ACS<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s true that ACS isn\u2019t no-kill\u2014yet\u2014but I feel that it\u2019s a goal that\u2019s going to need everyone in the community involved in. One good way to do it is to make ACS your first stop when you want a cat, a dog or a rabbit to take to a forever home. Here are some candidates:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-52436\" src=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/KZ.jpg\" alt=\"KZ\" width=\"620\" height=\"383\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Shelter staff and volunteers call <strong>KZ<\/strong>, ID#A583242, a \u201ccute little man dog\u201d!\u00a0He\u2019s an adorable and sweet little 6-year-old basset hound\/pit mix who came to ACS scared, fearful and timid. But he\u2019s opening up more and more each day and now comes running over as fast as his short little legs can carry him!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-52446\" src=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Marathon.jpg\" alt=\"Marathon\" width=\"620\" height=\"412\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Chubby little <strong>Pebbles, <\/strong>ID#A583650, is a 6-year-old pittie girl whose human abandoned her outside a pet-supply store the day before Christmas Eve. She\u2019s social and jolly but was probably a backyard dog and had had a few litters. Pebbles embodies everything that the animal community is trying to combat\u2014abandonment, breeding, neglect\u2014and a loving owner is needed to come forward and give her life some meaning. And she\u2019ll return the favor!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-52439\" src=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Baby.jpg\" alt=\"Baby\" width=\"620\" height=\"519\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-52440\" src=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Girl.jpg\" alt=\"Girl\" width=\"620\" height=\"520\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Every cat deserves a loving home and a place to live out a full life. This includes seniors. <strong>Baby<\/strong>,ID#A581624, and <strong>Girl<\/strong>, ID#A581626, are two spayed senior bonded lady cats. They are both bashful because they\u2019re confused as to why they aren\u2019t home\u2014they were abandoned by their owner and really need a new place to be a pair and live out their years in purring mode.
