Many of the Long Beach-area rescue teams and our shelter work with one another. I feel the same kinship with publications that have the well-being of pets as their only focus.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-52355\" src=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/PG_cover_to_LB_post-2.jpg\" alt=\"PG cover to LB post-2\" width=\"620\" height=\"784\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.petsguidemagazine.com\"><i>Petsguide<\/i><\/a>\u00a0is the best example I\u2019ve ever seen of complete journalistic dedication to cats and dogs. First of all, it\u2019s free\u2014you can pick it up at veterinary offices and pet-friendly businesses, among other locations. Second, it\u2019s local. They publish quarterly out of Los Alamitos, and all of their events, businesses and resources are in Long Beach and the surrounding cities. Third, if you can\u2019t find a print copy, their website, accessible at the link on their name, has everything from coupons to critter parties, and you can sign up there for The Scoop, <i>Petguide\u2019s<\/i> free quarterly newsletter.<\/p>\n<p>Fourth and best, there are resources not only for people who want to shower their buddies with the best but also for those who are experiencing difficulty and need assistance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re all about giving resources to pet owners to make their lives better,\u201d publisher Liz Davis said. And yes, they are.<\/p>\n<p>And fifth\u2014and this is completely subjective on my part\u2014the winter\/spring edition is a veritable Whitmans\u2019 Sampler\u2014but a lot tastier and more nutritious\u2014of resources, tips and insights about <i>cats, cats, cats!<\/i> Davis, in her Publisher\u2019s Note, practically apologizes for having devoted the nine years of publishing <i>Petsguide <\/i>to dogs, while neglecting \u201cthat independent and totally \u2018unique\u2019 creature that is probably rubbing up against your leg right now.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This issue contains advice on everything feline: adoption, differences among breeds, events, keeping that <i>smell <\/i>out of the house, cat safety and even breaking up cat fights. One page offers four ways to directly volunteer to better the lives of homeless kitties.<\/p>\n<p>And yes, there\u2019s dog stuff in there, too.<\/p>\n<p>Davis and her group also publish <i><a href=\"http:\/\/kidsguidemagazine.com\/\">Kidsguide<\/a>,\u00a0<\/i>which you can think of as the human-child equivalent of <i>Petsguide. <\/i>If you have any questions or suggestions for resources, contact the magazine at <a href=\"mailto:info@petsguidemagazine.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">info@petsguidemagazine.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>And now, in that spirit, here are three great candidates for adoption, from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/zoeysplacerescue\/?fref=ts\">Zoey\u2019s Place<\/a>\u00a0cat rescue. \u201cWe rescue small, but we rescue well\u201d is Zoey\u2019s Place\u2019s motto, but what can be added is \u201cWe rescue the distressed and compromised, but we make them well.\u201d If any of these fine felines strikes your fancy, please contact Zoey\u2019s Place at <a href=\"mailto:zoeysplacerescue@charter.net\">zoeysplacerescue@charter.net<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-52356\" src=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Tanner.jpg\" alt=\"Tanner\" width=\"620\" height=\"910\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tanner<\/strong>, 8 months old, was rescued from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/LongBeachAnimalCare\/?fref=ts\">Long Beach Animal Care Services<\/a>\u00a0by Zoey\u2019s Place. He\u2019s great with dogs, and the rescuers call him \u201cthe easiest boy ever.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-52357\" src=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Linus.jpg\" alt=\"Linus\" width=\"620\" height=\"465\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Linus <\/strong>came from our shelter, too. He\u2019s 11 months old, playful and awfully sweet.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-52358\" src=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Roman.jpg\" alt=\"Roman\" width=\"620\" height=\"859\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Turkish Angoras are white cats with plenty of personality and affection. <strong>Roman<\/strong>, rescued from East L.A., has this designation, and it fits. He\u2019s 11 months old and is a soft, gentle boy.<\/p>\n<p>And yes, there are dogs in here, too.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-52359\" src=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Lucy_and_Ethel.jpg\" alt=\"Lucy and Ethel\" width=\"620\" height=\"610\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Lucy and Ethel<\/strong> are a team of inseparable siblings. They\u2019re small dogs\u2014Lucy weighs 10 pounds, and Ethel weighs 7 pounds. They\u2019re 7 to 8 months old, and are funny, affectionate and playful. They love people of all ages, and cats and other dogs of all sizes. They\u2019ve been vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed and are at a private rescue, waiting patiently for someone to love them forever.
