Exhibition This Month"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-52309\" src=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/frankbros.jpg\" alt=\"frankbros\" width=\"640\" height=\"320\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Frank Bros. 34th Anniversary Sale Announcement &#8211; Courtesy of the Frank Family Collection.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The University Art Museum (UAM) will soon open <em>Frank Bros.: The Store that Modernized Modern<\/em>, to be on view starting Saturday, January 28 to Sunday, April 9.<\/p>\n<p>The Frank Bros. furniture store was based right here in Long Beach, from 1938 to 1982, and became \u201cSouthern California\u2019s largest and most prominent mid-century retailer of modern furniture and design,\u201d a retail outfit that quite often toed the line between art gallery and furniture shop, according to the UAM.<\/p>\n<p>Guest-curated by Cara Mullio and Jennifer Volland, <a href=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/life\/arts-culture\/duo-writes-the-book-s-on-long-beach-architecture\/\">the duo behind two books archiving the city\u2019s architectural landscape<\/a>, <em>Long Beach Architecture: An Unexpected Metropolis<\/em> and <em>Edward A. Attendees were given a chance to see how the Frank Bros. In March of 2015 the home was put up for sale.<\/p>\n<hr style=\"width:100%; float:left;\" \/>\n<div style=\"width: 100%; float: left;\">\n<div style=\"width: 100px; height: 100px; background-image: url('images\/asia\/frankhouse1.jpg'); background-size: cover; background-position: center center; float: left; margin-right: 30px; display:none;\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<p> <small style=\"font-weight: lighter;\">RELATED<\/small> <\/p>\n<h2 ><a onclick=\"ga('send', 'event', 'Related Link', 'click', 'Realted Link v1');\" href=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/place\/real-estate\/killingsworth-designed-frank-house-3\/\">Killingsworth-Designed Frank House, a Mid-Century Modern Masterpiece for Sale<\/a><\/h2>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"width: 100%; height: 0;\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<hr style=\"width:100%; float:left;\" \/>\n<p>On display will be a Frank Bros. history, where Los Angeles-based designer and <a href=\"http:\/\/picnicdesign.org\/home\/\">Picnic Design<\/a> co-founder Marci Boudreau\u2019s bright palette, bold typography and dynamic layouts draw attention to an extensive timeline, honoring the brothers described as \u201cmasters at presentation, seizing every opportunity to educate their customer and promote the new casual, yet sophisticated California lifestyle,\u201d stated the exhibition announcement.<\/p>\n<p>Also to be showcased are ephemera from the Frank Bros. love of presentation, an installation displaying over 70 ads they placed in Arts &amp; Architecture magazine, photographic documentation showing the numerous exhibitions Frank Bros. curated to showcase the designs of Neal Small, Charles Eames and Phillip Orenstein and lastly, furniture, objects and accessories from the home of Ron and Nancy Frank.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-52310\" src=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/frankbros1.jpg\" alt=\"frankbros1\" width=\"640\" height=\"942\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Neal Small exhibition at Frank Bros., 1969, Getty Research Institute, Los Angeles (2009.M.19).
