This year\u2019s Turkey Trot, spearheaded by Long Beach activist Justin Rudd, looks to provide an opportunity for residents to burn some calories before the Thanksgiving feasts begin yet again.<\/p>\n

The annual tradition will kick off with the initial 5K and 10K running races on Thursday, November 24 at 7:00AM, followed by two other waves\u2014one at 8:30AM and one at 10:00AM at the Granada boat launch on the beach path. Runners are requested\u2014as always\u2014to wear appropriate apparel.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo Native American costumes at the Long Beach Turkey Trot,\u201d the site reads. \u201cIt is our policy to treat people with honor, dignity and respect \u2014 regardless of their beliefs, gender, age, race, creed, sexual orientation, special needs and ethnicity.\u201d<\/p>\n

Other events include a half-mile \u201cWingding\u201d race for kids, with a 9:40AM wave for those aged 8 to 12 and a 9:45AM wave for those aged 7 or younger. All parents running with their children during the race are required to sign a liability waiver.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe intentionally have those various start times because we have people who want to sleep in on a holiday like that, and I know that people go out the night before, so that works fine and others want to get it out of the way early and get home and get the turkey in the oven and on to grandma\u2019s house,\u201d said Rudd in a previous interview<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The 5K and 10K events run at $38 through November 22, with a $40 price tag for events after that date. Payment is cash-only on Wednesday, November 23 and Thursday, November 24.<\/p>\n

Prices for the \u201cWingding\u201d race are $35 until November 22, and $40 after that date. Again, payment is cash-only after November 22.<\/p>\n
