On Saturday, Pet Food Express in Bixby Knolls will have its monthly adoption event (see Mark Your Calendars). These little doggies from the shelter are so deserving of placement in a forever home.<\/p>\n

November\u2019s the month in which gratitude is traditionally expressed, and it works both ways when you take in a pet, especially one that was formerly neglected or abandoned. As theologian Karl Barth was quoted (in a Mutts <\/i>comic, of coursh), \u201cJoy is the simplest form of gratitude.\u201d Pass the peanut butter treats, please. With gravy. No stuffing, please.<\/p>\n

\"Addison\"<\/p>\n

Addison <\/strong>is a smooth-coated female Chihuahua mix, already spayed and ready to go home. She\u2019s about 12 years old but still has lots of years left. What\u2019s Thanksgiving without a spry granny? Ask for ID#A579379.<\/p>\n

\"Manita\"<\/p>\n

Manita\u00a0<\/i><\/strong>means \u201clittle hand\u201d in Spanish, and this girl is so named because she has only three of them. She\u2019s about 2 years old. She was born without one of her front legs, but the staff and animal community who come to play with her say that this doesn\u2019t seem to slow her down. She\u2019s sociable with people, pets and kids. She\u2019s available to go home as well, but Live Love Pet Care and Animal Rescue<\/a>\u00a0is also seeking a foster for her and will provide supplies and medical care. Walk for the War Dogs with FOLBA at the Veterans Day Parade<\/strong><\/p>\n

Just as civilians show their support for and honor veterans every year (that\u2019s correct, it\u2019s never<\/i> enough), animal advocates and their dogs attend parades like ours in Long Beach to remember the dogs and other animals that died in service to our country. Friends of Long Beach Animals (FOLBA)<\/a>\u00a0will be bringing their dogs to march in the Veterans Day parade, and they invite anyone either with or without a furry buddy to march along with them. Come early in order to find a parking space, be sure that you have water on hand for you and your dog, and mind the advisory\u2014if you feel that your dog may be nervous around parade noise and horses, it\u2019s best that he or she stay home.
