The Queen Mary designed and constructed by the P2S\/MHPSE team.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Last year\u2019s designs were awe-inspiring: elaborate can designs in the shape of The Queen Mary and other iconic Long Beach structures. What\u2019s more, such events held in 140 cities around the globe have collected over 15 million pounds of canned food for a good cause.<\/p>\n<p>This year, the third annual competition will be held in the Landmark Square Building lobby, beginning at 8:00AM on September 15, with the display lasting through September 25. Over 10,000 lbs. of canned goods will be used to construct the 10\u2019 x 10\u2019 x 10\u2019 structures and will be donated to local nonprofit Food Finders food rescue\/bank to help alleviate hunger within the Long Beach community, and all adhering to this year\u2019s theme, \u201cIt doesn\u2019t take a superhero to end hunger.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Food Finders is excited to be the beneficiary of the third annual Long Beach CANstruction,\u201d said Diana Lara, vice president of Operations of Food Finders in a statement. \u201cLast year\u2019s event generated a 16,000 pound donation of canned goods, and this unique event will continue to heighten awareness of food insecurity in our community and will play an important role in helping to feed the hungry in our own backyard.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Six local teams of engineers and architects will participate in the competition. This year\u2019s competitors are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Environ Architecture partnering with California Resources Corp.<\/li>\n<li>Moffatt &amp; Nichol<\/li>\n<li>C\/A Architects<\/li>\n<li>Kamus + Keller Interiors | Architecture<\/li>\n<li>Alta Vista Solutions<\/li>\n<li>DPR Construction partnering with HDR Architects<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Visitors are encouraged to bring their own cans to the Landmark building, voting on the winners by placing cans in a bin labeled &#8220;People\u2019s Choice&#8221; next to each structure.
