The Arts Council for Long Beach and Mayor Robert Garcia will partner for the second consecutive year to host the annual State of the Arts event, a day to celebrate the outstanding work of local artists, arts advocates and others who support the arts in Long Beach, on Thursday, September 22 at 9:00AM at Liberty Art Gallery.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt last year\u2019s event, Mayor Garcia announced major new commitments to the arts,\u201d said Griselda Su\u00e1rez, executive director for the Arts Council, in a statement. \u201cMost significantly, he announced he would ask the city council to explore reinstating the City\u2019s dedicated funding for the arts \u2013 a promise he made good on and that is now under study.\u201d<\/p>\n

This year, the State of the Arts coincides with the Arts Council\u2019s 40th Anniversary to the day, which was formed on September 22, 1976, according to the release.<\/p>\n

The Arts Council will announce at the event five individuals or organizations, selected through a public nomination process<\/a>, that will be honored with its Annual Arts Awards: the James H. Ackerman Arts Philanthropist, Arts Educator, Arts Volunteer, Arts Innovator and Economic Development Arts Trailblazer awards.<\/p>\n
