{"id":17739,"date":"2020-07-15T10:08:27","date_gmt":"2020-07-15T17:08:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/hi-lo\/?p=30000012696"},"modified":"2020-07-15T11:39:26","modified_gmt":"2020-07-15T18:39:26","slug":"addison-los-angeles-pride-leaving-west-hollywood","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/esd\/hi-lo\/addison-los-angeles-pride-leaving-west-hollywood","title":{"rendered":"LA Pride will seek new host city after serving West Hollywood for 40 years"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Christopher Street West, the nonprofit organization behind SoCal&#8217;s largest Pride celebration, has announced it will no longer host LA Pride in West Hollywood, the city where the festival has been held for more than four decades.<\/p>\n<p>In a letter sent to the West Hollywood City Council, the nonprofit said come 2021, LA Pride will find itself in a new home that has yet to be determined.<\/p>\n<p>The organization cited construction concerns, demographics, and more as its reason for moving the historic celebration.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;[Our reasons] include construction in West Hollywood Park [where the main festival occurs], the changing demographics of Greater Los Angeles, our commitment to being responsive to the LGBTQIA+ community\u2019s needs, and our allyship and collaboration with other movements for social change,\u201d the letter says.<\/p>\n<p>LA Pride has taken place every year in West Hollywood since 1979 but has also faced its share of change as the face the LGBTQ community both grows and diversifies.<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/lbpost.com\/hi-lo\/addison-long-beach-pride-la-pride-2019<\/p>\n<p>Now dubbed the &#8220;Gay Coachella&#8221;\u2014its festival has become heavily music-centric over the past four years\u2014LA Pride has morphed to reflect a more contemporary audience. With the COVID-19 pandemic and the recent protests, this year&#8217;s parade\u2014which marked its 50th anniversary\u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/local\/lanow\/la-me-ln-pride-resist-march-20170611-story.html\">became a Resist March<\/a> that was focused heavily on the Black Lives Matter movement, especially its Black Trans Lives Matter extension.<\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/beaconecon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/2019_LA_Pride_Impact_Report_Digital.pdf\">a Beacons Economic study commissioned by the nonprofit<\/a>, LA Pride&#8217;s economic reach is far and wide: It not only increased economic output in Los Angeles County by some $75 million, but nearly $28 million of that is concentrated in West Hollywood alone.
