{"id":1807,"date":"2016-08-01T21:52:59","date_gmt":"2016-08-01T21:52:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lbpost.com\/articles\/life\/hundreds-of-pokemon-go-players-stampede-shoreline-marina\/"},"modified":"2016-08-01T21:52:59","modified_gmt":"2016-08-01T21:52:59","slug":"hundreds-of-pokemon-go-players-stampede-shoreline-marina","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/esd\/hi-lo\/hundreds-of-pokemon-go-players-stampede-shoreline-marina","title":{"rendered":"Hundreds of Pok\u00e9mon Go Players Stampede Shoreline Marina to Catch Creature Driven to Extinction"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" alignleft size-full wp-image-49795\" style=\"float: left;\" src=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/131.png\" alt=\"131\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/>What appeared to be one of Long Beach\u2019s largest Pok\u00e9mon Go-initiated stampedes took place Sunday night, when a wild Lapras appeared off the coast near Shoreline Marina at approximately 10:45PM.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/news\/in-pictures-pokemon-go-players-meet-catch-and-fight-pokemon-in-downtown-long-beach\/\">hundreds of Pok\u00e9mon Go players known to habitually congregate in Shoreline Aquatic Park<\/a> near Long Beach\u2019s iconic lighthouse were spotted running as a herd toward the marina to catch the rare water-type creature.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a Pok\u00e9mon thing,\u201d shouted a player in response to why he was running, his feet slapping the pavement as he sprinted down the bike path toward the location of the sighting.<\/p>\n<p>It looks like a series of rare sightings took place starting Friday when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Hs1FAFM64lY\">players attempted to capture a Dragonite,<\/a> a dragon-type Pok\u00e9mon capable of circling the globe in a mere 16 hours, and on Saturday, when <a href=\"%20https:\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=M4Ps2bPLUFE\">hundreds of the game\u2019s users crowded\u00a0Shoreline Aquatic Park<\/a> in search of a Wartortle, a rough-and-tumble water-type.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Pok\u00e9mon official <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pokemon.com\/us\/pokedex\/\">Pok\u00e9dex<\/a>, Lapras has been driven to the point of extinction, and sings to seek what few others of its kind still remain. However, not one Pok\u00e9mon Go player seemed to mind snatching up the poor thing for points and bragging rights.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;What if we saw one in real life, dad,&#8221; asked a child, whose father largely ignored her imaginative query because he was busy catching his own fictitious critters.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A Blastoise was also seen spawning around Rainbow Harbor on Saturday, inciting excitement among the city&#8217;s\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon players.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"fb-video\" data-href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/longbeachpost\/videos\/10154286917720256\/\" data-show-text=\"false\">\n<blockquote class=\"fb-xfbml-parse-ignore\" cite=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/longbeachpost\/videos\/10154286917720256\/\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/longbeachpost\/videos\/10154286917720256\/\"><\/a> <\/p>\n<p>Lapras wasn&#8217;t the only rare Pok\u00e9mon sighting over the weekend along Long Beach&#8217;s coastline, as Pok\u00e9mon GO enthusiasts aplenty congregated on Saturday under the unforgiving sun, in an attempt to add Blastoise to their Pok\u00e9dex.
