The streets will be closed to all motorized traffic along Anaheim Street, from Orange Avenue to Pacific Coast Highway, to make way for people to walk, bicycle and socialize, during one of the city\u2019s most popular recurring events.<\/p>\n<p>Thousands are expected to attend this third Open Street event, following the thousands of participants who took to the streets during the Beach Streets Downtown in March, as well as the <a href=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/place\/in-pictures-beach-streets-uptown-3\/\">successful inaugural event<\/a>, when Long Beach\u2019s uptown area was transformed into the city\u2019s first ciclov\u00eda.<\/p>\n<hr style=\"width:100%; float:left;\" \/>\n<div style=\"width: 100%; float: left;\">\n<div style=\"width: 100px; height: 100px; background-image: url('images\/asia\/beachstreetsuptown\/dsc_0383_900x602.jpg'); background-size: cover; background-position: center center; float: left; margin-right: 30px; display:none;\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<p> <small style=\"font-weight: lighter;\">RELATED<\/small> <\/p>\n<h2 ><a onclick=\"ga('send', 'event', 'Related Link', 'click', 'Realted Link v1');\" href=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/place\/in-pictures-beach-streets-uptown-3\/\">IN PICTURES: Beach Streets Uptown Transforms Atlantic Avenue into Long Beach&#8217;s First Ciclov\u00eda<\/a><\/h2>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"width: 100%; height: 0;\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<hr style=\"width:100%; float:left;\" \/>\n<p>\u201cWe are extremely excited about hosting yet another Beach Streets event,\u201d said Mayor Robert Garcia in a statement. \u201cThey\u2019re so popular with the community because there is really something for the whole family, whether it\u2019s biking, skating, music, art or just seeing your friends and neighbors out having fun.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 2.5-mile closed route will include several activity hubs, with festivals, music, demonstrations, food and more, according to the release.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re looking forward to another wonderful Beach Streets event,\u201d said Councilmember Suzie Price in a statement. \u201cThey are a great opportunity to discover a new favorite business or restaurant.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-49697\" src=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/dsc_0250_900x602.jpg\" alt=\"dsc 0250 900x602\" width=\"640\" height=\"428\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Many of the city\u2019s departments will also participate by providing healthy, active-living activities and booths with information for families, including the Health Department, Fire, Police, Library, Parks, Recreation and Marine, Airport, Port, Public Works and more.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople are sure to see Long Beach in a new light,\u201d said Councilmember Daryl Supernaw in a statement. \u201cBest of all, Beach Street Midtown will be a lot of fun.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Several intersections will be maintained so that motorists can still cross Anaheim Street, with the entire route and extended streets to be closed to vehicles, motorcycles, scooters and anything with a motor. However, exceptions will be made for officially marked transportation for those with disabilities, according to the release.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBeach Streets is a wonderful event that bring families and communities together,\u201d stated Councilmember Dee Andrews. \u201cThis will be the first time the Sixth District and Midtown play a bigger role in the event route. We are going to use this event to highlight our district\u2019s innovation, activity, and willingness to keep moving forward.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-49698\" src=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/dsc_0363.jpg\" alt=\"dsc 0363\" width=\"640\" height=\"428\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Tens of thousands of people participated in the first two Open Streets events, according to the release, while re-purposing the streets for pedestrians, cyclists and other non-motorized modes of movement, is becoming more popular throughout North America.
