When considering animal rescues, what comes up is a safe haven for abandoned, unwanted pets who will, it\u2019s hoped, be eventually adopted and live good lives. But a rescue is by definition a rescue, and there are a lot of them in Long Beach and everywhere else that define rescue in a lot of ways. One of them is Live Love Pet Care and Animal Rescue Services here in town.<\/p>\n

In February, a woman saw this sweet dog get hit by a car as she was trying to cross the street at a busy intersection. This good Samaritan immediately called Long Beach Animal Care Services, but they were on other calls and couldn\u2019t show up for a long time.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe called us in tears asking for help,\u201d wrote Live Love founder Emily Haden on her Facebook page<\/a>. \u201cWe requested that she immediately rush Ellie to our vet, VCA Lakewood Animal Hospital<\/a>, as she appeared to be in shock and need to be stabilized right away.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ellie, for that\u2019s what the rescuers had named her, wasn\u2019t in great shape, with multiple pelvic fractures, a dislocation on her right side, broken ribs, and a hemothorax\u2014<\/i>a buildup of blood and fluid in the lungs. But Haden and the rescuer knew that she was someone\u2019s doggie. In a touching detail, she\u2019d been carrying a squeaky toy and had a worn-out collar with no ID. The rescuer went to every length to find the owner, but to no avail. Her injuries were weakening her, so Live Love, with support from partners at\u00a0Zoey\u2019s Place Rescue<\/a>, took Ellie under their wing and get her veterinary assistance. She appears to be only 4 years old and has lots of love and life to give, and the surgery will be expensive, so the organization is asking for help with the hefty $8,000 bill. VCA\u2019s head surgeon, Dr. Denise Bierens, says that she can repair her pelvis and that Ellie can make a full recover. Mya<\/strong> is a cattle dog\/pit bull mix, approximately 12 years old. She was rescued from the Carson shelter just in time to save her life. She is a smart, sweet girl with a heart of gold for children! She’s very mellow and is great on a leash and well mannered. She\u2019s also been spayed and vaccinated. Mya just wants a cozy bed in her forever home to enjoy her golden years! Please share to make her dream come true!<\/p>\n

\"Milo<\/p>\n

Milo<\/strong>, a black-and-white Chihuahua\/terrier mix, was rescued from the Riverside shelter. He\u2019s Live Love\u2019s one-eyed wonder! He\u2019s anywhere from 4 to 6 years old. He has \u201cpiglet personality\u201d\u2014he snorts and snores, and he\u2019s mellow as can be and just wants to be on your lap getting love! Look at the smile he\u2019s sharing with Scout! \u00a0to brighten your day!<\/p>\n

Scout<\/strong> is a white-and-tan whippet\/beagle\/terrier mix, rescued from Long Beach Animal Care Services. He\u2019s 3 to 5years old and is a spunky social dude, as you can see. Scout is the first one to make friends with all the pups in Live Love\u2019s rescue pack and rotates his face cleaning for each of them\u2014adorable! He can be shy with humans at first, but he\u2019s always cordial, and once you get his trust, he\u2019s ready to cuddle up for a movie or play whenever you are.<\/p>\n

The new Pet Food Express, which features high-quality pet food, toys and accessories, is teaming up with Long Beach Animal Care Services (ACS)\u00a0<\/a>to present what they say is the \u201clargest pet adoption event in Long Beach,\u201d with more than 125 pets available. There will be puppies, dogs, kittens, cats and more available from more than 15 animal rescue groups and shelters, and Pet Food Express and ACS are aiming to adopt out as many pets as possible in one weekend.<\/p>\n

The event will also feature stunt dog performances at noon, 2:00PM and 3:00PM; free self-serve pet washes (to run through March); pet food and treat vendors giving out samples; and 20 percent off anything in the store.<\/p>\n

The two entities are also celebrating the grand opening of a state-of-the-art cat adoption center inside the new Pet Food Express store in Long Beach. The center will house up to 12 cats and kittens available for adoption.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis new cat adoption center inside Pet Food Express is an amazing opportunity for the cats that come to our shelter to find a furever home,\u201d said Ted Stevens, LBACS manager. \u201cWith the shelter being located on the east side of Long Beach, this adoption center brings opportunities to the residents in other areas of the city to find new loving pets in a convenient location closer to home.\u201d<\/p>\n
