Michael Solomonov, James Beard Award-winning chef, is joining with Jewish Long Beach and the Alpert Jewish Community Center to offer a free, Chanukah virtual cooking class on Wednesday, Dec. 2, at 5 p.m. Chanukah begins Dec. 10.<\/p>\n

Jewish Long Beach and Alpert JCC are one of a handful of Jewish Federations across the country to offer the collaboration which can be viewed via Vimeo after you register, which you can do here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Solomonov is executive chef at Philadelphia’s Zahav, recognized by Beard as the outstanding restaurant of 2019. Zahav specializes in Solomonov’s contemporary take on traditional Israeli cuisine. Solomonov will be sharing his recipes and techniques for Chanukah live on Dec. 2 and here’s what he’ll be preparing:<\/p>\n

Apple Shrub<\/strong><\/p>\n

A shrub is a non-alcoholic syrup made with fruit, sugar, and vinegar that can be added to hot tea for a cozy, non-alcoholic holiday beverage.<\/p>\n

Potato Latkes<\/strong><\/p>\n

This recipe is from Solomonov’s Abe Fisher restaurant, a Philadelphia mainstay.<\/p>\n

Roman Artichokes with Arugula and Olive Oil<\/strong><\/p>\n

The chef’s take on \u201cCarciofi Alla Giudia\u201d or Jewish-style artichokes.<\/p>\n

Poached Salmon<\/strong><\/p>\n

While Chanukah’s main course is often brisket or chicken, salmon is not uncommon.<\/p>\n

Sfenj with Cinnamon and Sugar<\/strong><\/p>\n

Delicately fried and covered with cinnamon sugar for dessert.<\/p>\n
